In a gory incident,a woman killed her 10-year old son by poisoning him three days ago so that the path is cleared to marry her paramour,police said here.
Kamaljeet Kaur,29,and her husband,Kuldeep Singh,both of whom were earlier living in Italy,had strained relations. She came back to India about two years ago to her in-laws house in Vadhela village along with her two children.
Speaking to The Indian Express,Mehatpur SHO Bimal Kant said that the victim,Satinderjit Singh,left for school as usual in the school bus last Friday.
The moment he got down from the bus,he began vomiting. The worried teachers sent him home immediately. When he reached home,one of his relatives asked the child what he had eaten to which he replied that his mother had given him a tablet before the chapati while he was leaving for school, said the SHO.
In no time,the child died,he added.
Police sources said there were rumours in the village that Kamaljeet had illicit relations with a neighbour,Satvir Singh (27),and they decided to question the two.
When thoroughly questioned,Kamaljeet revealed she had given a celphos tablet to Satinderjit, said the SHO.
A little later,Satvir Singh was arrested too and the two accused said they were in love and wanted to get married,but thought the child was an obstacle to their relations, he added.
More celphos tablets have been recovered from Kamaljeets possession.
