Woman commits suicide,husband,mother-in-law held

One Beant Kaur of Pallanpur village near Mullanpur in Mohali,reportedly committed suicide at her in-laws’ place,the police said here on Saturday. Although no suicide note was recovered,the police have arrested the deceased’s husband,Jatinder Singh,and mother-in-law,Gurdeep Kaur,on charges of abetment to suicide in furtherance of common intention under Sections 304-B and 34 of the IPC. Kaur’s father,Sant Singh of Khairpur village near Morinda in Ropar,reported to the police that his daughter was married to Jatinder last year; but soon after marriage,Kaur’s in-laws allegedly began harassing and torturing her for dowry. He alleged that his daughter took the extreme step unable to bear the torture.
