Water crisis has gripped Pinjore and Kalka, with locals getting supply after a gap of one or two days and at times as late as midnight.
Sources said part of the problem was shortage of staff as there was only one fitter in Kalka to control the water supply. Though there is sufficient water at Lohgarh, from where water is pumped to Kalka, due to power shortage, water is not properly pumped to tanks in Kalka.
Even if the power is cut-off for five minutes after the pump starts functioning,it takes two hours to restart water supply, said M K Bansal, executive engineer,Public Health,Panchkula.
He further said there was water shortage in Pinjore as the water level had gone down in the old tubewells.
He,however, said they had started digging three new tubewells, which will start working within three to four months and after that there will be some relief for residents of Pinjore.
Around Rs 4.8 crore has already been sanctioned to improve water supply in Pinjore, but the main problem is unscheduled powercuts,he stressed.
