Tricity’s tallest effigy in Panchkula: 180-foot tall, worth Rs 25 lakh

As many as eight Dusshera events will take place in Chandigarh with mane ones in sectors 46, 17,34 and other areas.

Tricity’s tallest effigy measuring 180 feet and costing Rs 25 lakh will be burnt in Panchkula on Thursday.

As many as eight Dusshera events will take place in Chandigarh with mane ones in sectors 46, 17,34 and other areas.

The Ravana effigy will also be accompanied by effigies of Kumbhkaran and Meghnad of 100 feet each.
It was in 2019 that Chandigarh witnessed the tallest effigy: 221 feet tall.

This time, Panchkula’s Ravana effigy has been crafted by Usmaan Qureshi with his 25 team members.
About 3,000 bamboo poles , 25 quintals of iron and heavy fabric worth lakhs has been used in making the Ravana effigy.

About 5,000 firecrackers have been inbuilt within the effigy.

In Sector 17, Chandigarh, effigies are of 60 feet each. MP Kartikeya Sharma is the chief guest.
Sector 17 had the city’s oldest Ramleela, organised since 1953 by Shree Ramleela Committee Parade Ground, Sector 17, which will culminate into Dussehra event on Thursday.

Parade Ground, Sector-17 — draws more than two lakh people annually.

Director Rajinder Bagga has been playing the role of Lord Rama. He said that the committee has always strived to showcase the divine leelas of Lord Rama in innovative ways, and this year, younger performers will also get the opportunity to take up key roles.

The team includes senior assistant director Sunil Sharma, a veteran journalist who has portrayed Ravan for over 46 years and was instrumental in introducing the high-tech recorded script format.
In Sector 46, the Ravana effigy is the highest in Chandigarh at 101 feet.
