Thieves break into Panchkula house, decamp with cash

Unidentified thieves burgled a businessman’s house in Sector 15 and decamped with gold and cash worth Rs 6-10 lakh when the family was away in Kaithal

Unidentified thieves burgled a businessman’s house in Sector 15 and decamped with gold and cash worth Rs 6-10 lakh when the family was away in Kaithal. Police said the thieves attempted to loot another house in Sector 15,but aborted their plan.

Sham Lal,who runs a ply-wood shop at Industrial Area Phase-II,had gone to visit his ailing father along with his family when the incident occurred. He was informed about the theft by the milkman when the family was returning from Kaithal early on Tuesday. The milkman had gone to deliver milk when he found that the lock of the main gate had been broken. He informed the family while they were on their way from Kaithal at around 9 am; the family reached to a ransacked house with clothes lying scattered on the bed. They, however, pointed out that the thieves hadn’t touched a laptop and a printer in the bed-room.

Besides the lock at the main gate, the kitchen grill was also broken and the family members believe that the thieves entered through the kitchen and later broke open the lockers in which the gold jewellery and cash was kept.

Police are investigating the matter. Sources said that the thieves also tried to strike at another house in the Sector-15 colony and had even managed to break the lock but did not get in as they may have feared getting caught.

The exact timing of the robbery couldn’t be ascertained . “We have registered a case in the Sector 15 theft case and will achieve a breakthrough soon,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP),Panchkula,Ashwin Shenvi, said.
