Following severe damage caused by heavy rainfall and the rising water levels in the Jayanti Ki Rao river, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure that the Jayantimajri–Gura–Kasoli link road remains operational at all times, particularly during the monsoon.
Taking swift action, the administration completed temporary restoration work on Thursday evening, restoring traffic and providing immediate relief to residents from five cutoff villages.
Highlighting the damage, DC Mittal explained that the causeway located at 6.29 km on the 12.81 km-long link road was completely washed away due to a heavy water inflow Wednesday. This vital road connects the villages of Gura, Kasoli, Karondewala, Bhagindi, and surrounding areas, all of which were left disconnected from the main road network after the damage.
“Ensuring connectivity for these villages is our priority. PWD has been instructed to maintain regular monitoring of the road, especially during rain, to prevent further disruption,” said DC Mittal.
PWD Executive Engineer Vivek Dureja confirmed that manpower and machinery were immediately deployed and temporary traffic movement has resumed. “A permanent solution is being planned and will be executed soon to ensure long-term stability of the road,” he added.
