Teachers dicuss faculty development

A delegation of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and Government Teachers Union (GTU) attended a faculty development programme (FDP) on Saturday,which was held at the Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 16. More than 100 teachers delivered the lecture on Saturday. The Education Secretary VK Singh personally interacted with teachers to take their feedback on the FDP.

The lecturers present in the school raised questions about the utility of the present method of faculty development programme. They gave valuable suggestions to the secretary. The education secretary directed the DPI(S) to take the written feedback from the teachers and accordingly modify the faculty development programme.

Singh said,“We have decided to modify the programme in favour of the teachers on the basis of their suggestion and feedback.”

The programme was attended by the DPI(S) Upkar Singh and Secretary,Finance,Ajoy Sharma. “Now the teaching will be in the form of discussions instead of in a lecture form,while some expert from the university or college will also be invited for orientations and the person coming from outside can share additional knowledge with the teachers,” he said.

The JAC and GTU,headed by Bhag Singh and Vinod Sharma respectively,will also be meeting the Education Secretary on Tuesday,July 30,for further discussion on the remaining demands,including proper infrastructure in the schools,to roll back the suspension orders and also the FIR lodged against the Joint Action Committee. All members of JAC has appealed to teachers to reach Masjid Ground on Wednesday at 3.30 pm for further line of action.

NGO holds march for soldiers

As a part of the different events organised to commemorate Kargil Vijaya Diwas,‘We Initiate’,an NGO from Chandigarh,organised a candlelight march in the city on Friday.

People from across the Tricity took part and marched from Neelam Theater and around the plaza and finally gathered at the fountain area in the city.

More than a hundred people gathered at the heart of Chandigarh to spread the message of peace and pay their tribute to the brave soldiers of the nation who lost their lives fighting for the country.
