As the town faces acute shortage of water,some areas went dry for the fourth consecutive day. Bank employee Subash Sharma,a resident of Sector 4,Parwanoo,told Newsline that taps in his house have been running dry for the last three days.
He further rued that Himachal Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) has increased the tariff from Rs 5 per 1000 litres to Rs 9.
Surinder Vashisht,executive engineer,HIMUDA,said three of the four water motors got damaged due to voltage fluctuation a few days ago when a fault was reported in the Northern Grid.
He added that the motors have been sent for repairs and it will take nearly four more days to restore water supply.
When asked why spare motors were not put to use to mitigate sufferings of public,Vashisht cited fund shortage.
HIMUDA needs to plan proper water supply for Parwanoo as pipelines are nearly 35 years old. According to sources,almost 30 per cent water goes waste due to leakage.
