Suspecting his wife’s character,a migrant labourer allegedly murdered her in Kharar late on Tuesday evening.

Parvati,in her mid-20s,a native of Madhya Pradesh,was repeatedly attacked with bricks on her head,leading to her death,Kharar City SHO Sub-Inspector Tarlochan Singh told Newsline on Wednesday.

Acting on the complaint of Parvati’s father Maijla,the local police today arrested Ashok Kumar,in his early 30s,also a native of Madhya Pradesh and presently putting up in hutment at a housing project construction site on the Kharar-Banur Road in Kharar.

Maijla told the police that he had come to see his daughter in Kharar last evening around 8 pm and when he entered her hutment,he saw Ashok hitting something hidden under a sack.

“When I asked him about Parvati,he fled the spot and on removing the sack,I was shocked to find Parvati bleeding profusely under it,” the grieving father revealed.

Parvati was rushed to Civil Hospital,from where she was shifted in a critical condition to Chandigarh PGIMER,where she finally died late last night,the SHO said.

Maijla informed the police that Parvati was the eldest of three daughters and was married to Ashok around 9 years ago.

The couple’s eldest daughter,aged 8,was residing with her grandparents in Madhya Pradesh while other two children — a six-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son — were living with the couple here.

During preliminary police interrogation,Ashok confessed to the cold-blooded murder and attributed it to suspicion over Parvati’s character,the SHO informed,while adding that a case of murder under Section 302 of the IPC has been slapped against Ashok.
