On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, Rattan Professional Education College of Nursing organised a series of awareness activities aimed at sensitising students and the community about mental health and the importance of preventing suicide. The programmes encouraged open dialogue, creative expression, and positive action under this year’s global theme, “Creating Hope Through Action”.
In the speech competition, students and faculty members highlighted the significance of observing World Suicide Prevention Day. They stressed that instead of hiding mental health struggles, people should talk openly so that individuals feel encouraged to seek timely support.
The poster-making competition allowed students to convey powerful messages through art, emphasising that “suicide is not a solution”. Their posters highlighted that seeking help can lead to new directions and renewed hope in life.
A debate competition centered around the theme “Creating Hope Through Action” saw participants present arguments. They underscored the need to spread awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, and provide support to those in distress.
Speakers at the event emphasised the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone. They said expanding access to mental health resources and encouraging help-seeking behaviour are crucial steps toward building a healthier society.
The World Suicide Prevention Day is observed every year on September 10 to raise awareness about suicide prevention. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 700,000 people die by suicide annually. Addressing this alarming challenge, the participants emphasised the need for strong national-level policies and preventive frameworks.
