Demanding a fair inquiry into the case where two school teachers were suspended few weeks ago and later got reinstated to the Government High School in Hallomajra, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Welfare Association(SSATWA) met Deputy Director (School Education), Chanchal Singh, Tuesday.

The association requested Singh to take a decision in favour of the teachers as per Section 27 of the Right to Education Act, 2009. President of the association, Arvind Rana, stated that as per the aforementioned section, no teachers should be given non-academic duties other than those related to election, census and disaster management.

“But the teachers at the Hallomajra school were doing non-academic duties. The department should have sympathy towards these teachers who should not be subject to disciplinary inquiry action, suspension or termination for the duties they are not supposed to perform,” the members stated.

The members of the association mentioned about various orders which said that teachers should not be given charge of handling school funds, SSA and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan. In a MHRD report of 2012-13, clear instructions were given to state/UTs that teachers were not to be involved in supervision of midday meals in any manner as it would affect the teaching-learning process adversely.

Arvind Rana said, “We have requested the deputy director to issue the joining dates of the teachers retrospectively from the date of suspension so that they do suffer salary loss of 13 days. If nothing favourable is done, then the association shall meet the education secretary and request him to take a decision in spirit of the RTE Act.”
