The Mohali Sessions Court has granted regular bail to 42-year-old Harjinder Singh, accused of making threatening phone calls and sending WhatsApp messages to Punjabi singer Mankirat Aulakh.
The case relates to a series of calls and messages received on August 20 and 21 this year on the singer’s management number, allegedly threatening to kill Aulakh and his family. Initially, an FIR was registered against an unknown person, but based on a tip-off, the police later named Harjinder Singh and arrested him on August 24.
Harjinder’s counsel, advocate Jagvinder Kaur, argued that the case was originally lodged against an unidentified individual and that her client had been “falsely implicated”. She pointed out that “no incriminating material has been recovered, and with the chargesheet yet to be filed, the trial will take considerable time”.
The public prosecutor opposed bail, contending that the accused had committed a serious offence and warning that, if released, “he could influence witnesses or harm the complainant’s family”.
The court noted that Harjinder Singh has been in custody since August 24, that there was “no evidence of gangster-related activity,” and that “nothing remains to be recovered”. The judge observed there was no purpose in extending custody and granted regular bail on a personal bond, with conditions that he must appear at every court hearing, he must not tamper with evidence, and he cannot leave the country without court permission.
