The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested Bharobhal village Sarpanch Ninder Singh and panchayat member Hardev Singh in connection with Border Area Development Programme (BADP) funds embezzlement case dating back to May 2011.
A statement by the VB said that the duo,in connivance with Sarbdyal Singh former personal secretary of former cabinet minister Gulzar Singh Ranike got a separate account of the panchayat opened in addition to its actual account. Sarbdyal received a cheque of Rs 5 lakh from then Gandiwind BDPO and got the amount credited in the said account through Ninder Singh and Hardev Singh,it added.
The VB further said that the duo withdrew Rs 4,20,500 from the said account and handed over the same to Sarbdyal Singh,from which Sarbdyal gave Rs 50,000 to Ninder Singh and got a demand draft worth Rs 75,000 for Hardev Singh to invest in a life insurance.
