Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)’s Fazilka district president Nardev Singh Bobby Mann was arrested on Wednesday by the CIA branch of the Punjab Police in connection with a firing incident that took place near the office of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) in Jalalabad during the panchayat poll nominations in October last year.
Bobby Mann was picked up from near New Chandigarh area in Mohali on Wednesday afternoon and brought to the Jalalabad Civil Hospital for a mandatory medical examination in the evening, police sources said.
In October 2024, SAD leader Vardev Singh, alias Nonny Mann, his brother Nardev Singh Mann, alias Bobby Mann, and about 15-20 unidentified people were booked for attempt to murder in Jalalabad of Fazilka district after AAP sarpanch candidate Mandeep Singh Brar was allegedly shot at.
The incident took place near the BDO office after objections were raised on the nomination that Vardev Mann’s son Harpinder Singh had filed for the sarpanch’s post in Chak Suhelewala village.
Besides Brar, one more person had suffered injury, but both recovered after the treatment. Police had then registered a case of attempt to murder and the Arms Act.
Later, Harpinder’s nomination papers were rejected.

His father, late Zora Singh Mann, was a senior Akali leader and three-time Member of Parliament from Ferozepur. He is remembered for his stronghold in the border belt. He won the Ferozepur Lok Sabha elections in 1998, 1999 and 2004.
Bobby’s brother also tried his luck in politics. Vardev Singh Mann contested the Guruharsahai Assembly seat thrice in 2012, 2017 and 2022 on SAD tickets, but was defeated.
