A Panchkula court today sent Gurpreet Singh,who was arrested yesterday for abducting an eight-year-old child Vansh from Ambala,to judicial custody. He was injured in the leg during an exchange of fire near Baltana yesterday. He is still admitted in the General Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,Chandigarh.
Ambala Police Range IG K.K. Sindhu and SP Shashank Anand held a joint press conference at Ambala and stated that the arrested abductor was identified as Gurpreet,a student and resident of nearby border village of Punjab Tasimbli,who had kidnapped the boy along with his accomplice from near Vansh’s residence,while returning from the school yesterday. The police party after a cross firing at Barbala check barrier caught Gurpreet while the other managed to escape A country made pistol,one bullet and two empty cartridges and the stolen vehicle used in the incident were recovered.
The child they said,was rescued and sent back to his parents safely within a period of four hours after the incident last night. Giving the detail,the IG Sindhu said that two persons including Grpreet had whisked away Vansh in a luxury car from the Defence Colony.
He said that Vansh’s grandfather received a call for ransom of Rs 80 lakh,in return for Vansh’s life. He said that entire area where the abductors had slipped away in Chandimandir area was cordoned off .
The Ambala CIA Unit moving cautiously spotted the car used by the criminals and gave them signal to stop at check barrier. But they ignoring the signal sped away. The police gave hot chase. The suspects fired from the vehicles and police also fired in cross firing. The police managed to stop the car abandoned by the suspects. One of the suspects who was injured in firing was nabbed while his accomplice managed to escape.
The police,he said,went close to the suspects on a clue from a STD call made from Naraingarh STD booth through which demand for ransom was made.
However,more information was likely to be gathered on interrogation of Gurpreet Singh. He said that the car was run on fake number and it was changed after committing the crime. IG claimed that the police once again showed prompt action in rescuing the abducted child after busting the notorious Badri gang within a fortnight.
