It has been nearly 26 days since the upgraded bus stand has been inaugurated at Jalalabad by SAD MP from Ferozepur,Sher Singh Ghubaya. Launched with much fanfare keeping the 2012 Assembly polls in view, the project at Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s constituency had cost Rs 1.38 crore. But the problem,it has found no takers.

The upgraded bus stand is yet to be put to proper use because buses do not enter its premises, instead, pick up passengers from the main road itself,as has been the norm. Even shops have been built inside the bus stand, but no shopkeeper is ready to take them on lease. Moreover,no time table of buses has been displayed inside the bus stand, which caters to routes like Fazilka,Abohar,Ganganagar,Bikaner and others.

“The huge building of bus stand is lying vacant with only one office of the roadways department,” said Balwinder Singh,Ferozepur Mini Bus Association president.

As the bus stand is located on the main road, the buses prefer to pick up the passengers from there only. Thus, small vendors on the main road make brisk business. “The roadways department needs to be serious and make buses enter the bus stand, where passengers can also sit and relax,” said Sanjeev Sharma,a resident of Jalalabad.
