Rose Festival showcases India’s cultural diversity

Patil said the Rose Festival was the right platform for artistes and artisans to project their rich cultural heritage and an opportunity to display them. He reminded that the festival was not only limited to the flower show but served a lot purpose. Around 350 wind chimes hung from a 40 feet high pole. Police bands played a variety of tunes while artistes from various states gave performance.

The contestants of Voice of Chandigarh,2009,performed at the Leisure Valley. The Food Court and Amusement Park attracted a large number of residents. Flower arrangements,potted plants and rangoli decked the venue.

The exhibitors at the Leisure Valley include Chandigarh Tourism Department,Le Corbusier Centre,K.K Phulkari Centre,Museum and Art gallery Sector 10,Guru Gobind Singh School,Government College of Art sector 10,Empowerment Centre,Greenfield Vermicompost and Chandigarh traffic police among others.

The three-day event will have various competitions like Rose Prince and Princess Competition for children,on the spot painting competition,flower arrangements,cut flowers and flowers grown in pots for garden lovers,kite flying,besides joy ride,camel ride,monkey dance,puppet show followed by cultural evenings by renowned singers and film personalities.

Senior officers who were present at the inaugural ceremony included M P Singh,Secretary to Governor Pradip Mehra,Adviser to Administrator Ram Niwas,Home Secretary Sanjay Kumar,Finance Secretary Brijender Singh,Deputy Commissioner Anu Chatrath,Mayor,Dr Roshan Sunkaria,Municipal Commissioner and other officials.

Tomorrow Bollywood actor Koena Mitra will perform,while acrobat dancers from Ukraine will perform rope dance,few artistes from Belarus in Ukraine will also give performance. The event,however,created a lot of chaos as roads leading to the venue were closed.
