Rockets, grenades, ammo found at retd Lt Col’s farm

According to Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh Chauhan, Lt Col (Retd) Gurcharan Singh retired from the Army in 1995 and died in 2010.

Patiala police on Thursday recovered four rockets, three grenades and more than 250 rounds of ammunition from the farm of a retired Lieutenant Colonel in Reetkheri village near Sirhind road.

According to Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh Chauhan, Lt Col (Retd) Gurcharan Singh retired from the Army in 1995 and died in 2010. He added that Gurcharan Singh’s family had given the land in question on lease to someone.

“We had a tip off that arms and ammunition were lying buried under the field. Today, an area near the tubewell was dug up and a cache of arms recovered. The ammunition is very old and not good for any use. We have handed over the ammunition to the Army authorities for investigation,” said SSP Chauhan.

“Four rockets, three grenades and one Springfield rifle were recovered from the field. How these weapons made their way to the field is a matter of investigation,” the SSP added.
