Concerned over discharge of effluents from Rajasthans Bhiwadi industrial area into Haryanas Dharuhera,Captain Ajay Singh Yadav,Haryana Power,Forests and Environment Minister, has urged Jayanthi Natarajan,Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests,to ensure compliance of directions issued to the Rajasthan Pollution Control Board under the Water Act,1974.
Yadav said,Effluents were being discharged intermittently into the open drain leading to Dharuhera. The discharge of effluents was causing serious concern as they were affecting habitation and crops of adjoining villages like Mahashawari and Malpura. A number of complaints have been received from villagers. The polluted effluents were stagnant in the form of cesspool near Haryana Urban Development Authority sectors and National Highway no. 8,causing nuisance to the residents of the area.
The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) had taken up the matter with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB). Recently,CPCB issued directions to the RSPCB chairman to address the issue of inter-state pollution. The Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) installed by Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Industrial Corporation (RIICO) was not functioning properly and was unable to treat all the discharges of industrial units of Bhiwadi industrial area. Also,a team of HSPCB and Dharuhera regional officer visited RIICOs treatment plant, but no satisfactory steps had been taken, Yadav added.
