Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi will on Tuesday visit the family of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide in Chandigarh, the Congress announced on Monday.
“LoP Shri Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Chandigarh tomorrow to extend his condolences to the family of the late Shri Y. Puran Kumar (IPS),” the party wrote on X.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Leader of the Opposition in the Haryana Assembly, told The Indian Express, “Rahul ji will reach Chandigarh in the afternoon. I and other Congress leaders will receive him at Chandigarh airport, and then all of us will visit the family of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.”
Puran Kumar’s family is not satisfied with either the Chandigarh Police or the Haryana Government. It continues to withhold its consent for the postmortem examination. His body has been lying in the mortuary since October 7, when he allegedly shot himself dead at his Chandigarh Sector 11 home.
His wife and IAS officer Amneet P Kumar met a few of the senior politicians on Monday. She also refused to meet a number of politicians who tried to pacify her on behalf of the state government.
From Union minister of state Ramdas Athawale to Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema to the INLD’s Abhay Chautala to various Haryana ministers, including Rao Narbir, to top bureaucrats, several people reached out to Amneet P Kumar and her family on Monday. A few tried to persuade her to give consent for the postmortem examination, while the others assured her of their support.
