Marking Teachers’ Day with compassion, the Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF), Punjab, has paused its departmental agitations to stand by flood victims. Under the slogan “struggle as well as service,” DTF announced that teachers and employees across the state have contributed Rs 26,50,555 towards relief efforts.

DTF leaders Vikramdev Singh (president), Mahinder Kaurianwali (general secretary), and Ashwani Awasthi (finance secretary) said, “This amount will be distributed through our organisational structure directly to genuine victims, based on their needs.”

The Democratic Employees Federation Punjab, led by Jarmanpreet Singh, Hardeep Todarpur, and Harinder Dusan, too extended support. “On September 2–3, delegations from every district submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister demanding immediate assistance for flood-hit families,” they said.

According to DTF, teams will reach Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Fazilka, and Ferozepur on September 5–6 to deliver aid. Relief packages include rations, medicines, diapers for children, notebooks and uniforms for students, sanitary napkins for women, and fodder for cattle.

To coordinate efforts, a four-member committee, headed by Mahinder Kaurianwali with Ashwani Awasthi, Kulwinder Joshan, and Tejinder Kapurthala has been formed. A collection centre has already been set up in Fazilka, while assistance has begun in Ferozepur and Kapurthala.

DTF confirmed that relief work will continue even after floodwaters recede. Fundraising was carried out across 20 districts, with leaders, including Mukesh Kumar, Jaswinder Aujla, Pawan Kumar Muktsar, Sukhdev Dansiwal, Gurwinder Singh Fazilka, and others mobilising contributions. Teachers and employees, they said, “enthusiastically participated in this humanitarian effort”.
