PU polls: 29 shortlisted for president’s post

The majority of the candidates selected for contesting the post of the president belong to the University Institute of Engineering and Technology followed by the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences and Department of Laws.

While the candidates can withdraw their names from the elections from 11 am to 1.30 pm on Saturday,the final list is expected to be declared by 3 pm on Saturday.

The shortlisted candidates for the post of president include Chandan Rana (National Students’ Organisation of India),Satwant Singh Dhedrhy (Panjab University Students’ Union),Arshnoor Singh (Students’ Organisation of Panjab University),Amit Sihmar (Indian National Student Organisation),Akanasha Sood (Hindustan Students’ Association),Navjot Kaur (Students’ Federation of India) and Priya Ranjan (University Institute of Engineering and Technology) as an Independent candidate.

Also,109 have been shortlisted to contest for the posts of Department Representatives (DRs). The elections for DRs will also be held along with the Students’ Council elections.

A number of candidates have been rejected from their respective departments on the basis of the Lyngdoh guidelines. As per the criteria,a candidate must fulfil the 75 per cent requirement of attendance and no police case must be registered against him. Also,the student should not have contested in the student elections of the university before.
