The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has initiated a process to transform itself into a dual recognition body, one that will certify both academic and vocational education under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) of the Government of India.

This strategic step is designed to bridge the gap between traditional academics and skill-based learning, ensuring that every student graduating from Punjab’s schools is equipped not only with theoretical knowledge but also with practical, industry-relevant competencies essential for future employment.

PSEB Chairman Dr Amarpal Singh underlined the broader vision driving this transformation, stating ,“Education must empower, not merely evaluate. Our goal is to prepare every student for both life and livelihood.”

He emphasised that the board’s new approach will build an integrated education ecosystem one that aligns classroom learning with real-world skill development.

Under this dual recognition model, the PSEB will certify both academic achievements and vocational skill competencies, allowing students to receive two qualifications simultaneously, a major step toward making Punjab’s education system more inclusive and employment-oriented.

To further this vision, the PSEB has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lend A Hand India (LAHI), a reputed organisation known for promoting skill development and vocational training in alignment with the NSQF.

The partnership aims to strengthen vocational education, curriculum design, and industry integration, ensuring that skill-based learning is seamlessly embedded within the school system. Through this initiative, students will have access to industry-certified vocational training that directly corresponds to employment opportunities in modern sectors.

According to officials, the collaboration with LAHI will also help standardise training modules, introduce competency-based assessments, and provide teacher capacity-building programs key components to sustaining long-term skill education across Punjab’s secondary schools.
