With 491 marks out of 500 or 98.2 per cent, Gurleen Kaur, daughter of a farmer, has topped Mohali in class 12th examination of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).
Hailing from a small town Banur, Gurleen of Government Senior Secondary School said that she does not have a mobile phone and she aspires to become a doctor. Explaining her succes mantra, Gurleen said she “did not take any tuition and followed the daily routine suggested by the teachers”.
The second position was shared by Priya Sharma from Science stream and Armanpreet Kaur from Humanities with 489 marks or (97.8 per cent).
Science student Chanpreet Kaur from Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, stood third in the district by securing 97.6 per cent.
Meanwhile, a total of 7,794 students appeared for the Punjab board in the district, out of which 6,944 cleared the exam, implying that 89.09 per cent students passed the examination. Mohali performed poorly in the state as it ranked 20 out of 23 districts in the state in pass
percentage.
Priya, who belongs to Patiala, but studies in Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious
Students in Mohali, said she used to study till late in her school hostel, adding that she wants to become a dentist.
Third-rank holder Chanpreet, whose father is an electrician and mother is a homemaker, said that “the hostel environment of my school was good and my teachers kept me motivating”.
