‘Provide the victim a govt job, police probe up to the mark’

Vice-chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes Dr Raj Kumar Verka on Sunday asked the UT Home Secretary to provide a government job to the gangrape victim once she completed her study.

Vice-chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes Dr Raj Kumar Verka on Sunday asked the UT Home Secretary to provide a government job to the gangrape victim once she completed her study.

Verka had summoned the Chandigarh Police for a hearing on Sunday.

“Keeping in view the financial condition of the family,I have asked the Home Secretary to provide a job to the victim after she completes her studies. I have also asked the government to provide the victim free education,” Verka told the media.

Expressing satisfaction with the police probe into the case,Verka said,“I am content with the work of the Chandigarh Police,as they registered an FIR without any delay, arrested all the five accused and also dismissed them from service.”

“There is no need for the case to be transferred to an independent agency as the investigation carried out by the Chandigarh Police is up to the mark,” he added.

Verka, however, slammed various outfits for politicising the matter. “It is unfortunate to see that political parties seem to have vested interests in the case. Rather than playing politics, they should be more focused on helping the victim,” he said.

“Even the visit of Baba Ramdev to the victim’s residence was unnecessary. If Ramdev really wanted to help the victim,he should have actually provided some financial assistance to her family rather than just making promises,” he added.
