The agenda of imposing property tax on the remaining five villages under the limits of the municipal corporation is set to rock the House meeting to be held on Monday.
Councillors of both the BJP and Congress are likely to oppose the imposition of property tax on the villages — Hallomajra, Palsora, Maloya, Dadumajra and Kajheri — in the House meeting.
Mayor Arun Sood said the municipal corporation had received a letter from the UT administration wherein it was stated that why the tax was not being imposed in the remaining villages.

“According to a letter by the UT administration , it was stated that when taxes have been imposed on four villages already, why they were not being imposed in the remaining five villages. It was also told that if we do not intimate them about this within a particular period, they will consider it to be our consent,” said Sood.
The letter was received in the last week of April.
He added: “Any communication received by the administration has to be placed before the House.”
The agenda was there in the previous House meeting as well, but since the meeting was adjourned, it could not be discussed. In October 2015, the UT administration had asked the MC to consider implementation of property tax on these villages.
Deputy mayor and SAD councillor Hardeep Singh said when there are no basic amenities in these villages, there is no point of imposing property tax.
The municipal corporation can expect revenue of around Rs 16 lakh per year from over 2,900 commercial establishments in these five villages.
The Congress has been getting this issue in the list of “failures” on the completion of two years of the BJP government at the Centre. In these villages, they have been apprising people alleging that BJP plans to impose property tax there and they would not let it happen.
Of the total 23 villages, Burail, Kajheri, Attawa, Buterla, Badheri, Palsora, Maloya, Dadumajra, Hallomajra and Manimajra villages fall under MC, while Dhanas, Sarangpur, Lahora, Khuda Jassu, Khuda Ali Sher, Kaimbwala, Kishangarh, Daria, Mauli Jagran, Raipur Kalan, Raipur Khurd, Makhanmajra and Behlana fall under UT.
