The Cybercrime Police has registered a case against preacher Baldev Singh Ugran for allegedly uploading edited photos of a woman on social media and threatening her. The complaint was filed by a woman who volunteers in langar services at gurdwaras in Mohali and Chandigarh.

According to the complaint, the victim had previously filed a sexual assault case against a man called Harjit Singh. During the investigation, she came in contact with preacher Baldev Singh Ugran. The victim alleged that Harjit Singh, with the help of his manager Gaurav Jalota, accessed her phone to extract photos, edited them in an objectionable manner, and when she refused to withdraw the case, Ugran allegedly uploaded these images on his Facebook page.

She claimed that Ugran also threatened to harm her family. “I feel mentally and financially distressed, and constantly unsafe,” the victim told the authorities.

Ugran, however, denied all allegations in his police statement, claiming that the woman had filed a false complaint to blackmail him. “No photos were uploaded from my Facebook ID,” he stated.

During the investigation, a witness called Harmanjit Singh showed the police a screen recording confirming that obscene images of the woman had indeed been uploaded on Ugran’s Facebook page. Based on this evidence, the police registered a case under Section 77 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and sections 66(E) and 67(A) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, against Ugran.
