Three days after a vigilance inquiry was initiated against UT Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shayin for allegedly ignoring rules while transferring his PA Poonam Malik to the Chandigarh Agriculture Marketing Board as senior assistant and then further giving her charge of secretary of the Chandigarh Market Committee, Malik was stripped of the charges with immediate effect on Friday evening.
The DC had transferred Malik to the marketing board on January 15 in his capacity as secretary of the board and, a week later, on January 23, she was given the charge of secretary of the Chandigarh Market Committee which, it is alleged, was against rules of the Punjab Agricultural Produce Markets Act, 1961, as applicable to Chandigarh.
Confirming the development, SB Deepak Kumar, Special Secretary of Vigilance, said that Malik had been relieved on the orders of the DC and would report to the Personnel Department on Monday.

He added that the DC also sought two days more to submit documents relating to Malik’s initial appointment in the Red Cross Society and orders of her present posting. He was earlier asked to submit these documents on Wednesday before 4 pm.
When reached for comment on the matter, the DC reacted sharply, saying, “Don’t call again and confirm from Deepak Kumar.”
On Thursday, the Vigilance Department had decided to look into eight pending complaints against Malik. Heads of the relevant departments were asked to send reports on the status of these complaints, along with their comments.
