Policeman injured as accused in drug case bites him during raid

A police raid on a house in Sherpur Bet village of Machhiwara in connection with a drug case turned violent when an ASI was attacked and injured by the accused. Following the assault, the Khanna Police registered a case against Kulwant Kumar, his son Neeraj Kumar, and Neeraj’s wife, Komal Ghahi.

According to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Karamjit Singh, who is investigating the case, stated that they received a complaint via the 112 helpline alleging that Neeraj Kumar, alias Bobby, and his wife Komal Ghahi were involved in drug consumption and peddling. The tip-off suggested that heroin was present in their house for sale.

Acting on this information, ASI Sukhwinder Singh and his team reached Neeraj Kumar’s house and knocked on the door. However, Neeraj refused to open it. After some time, when the door was finally opened, the police team entered the house, but Neeraj and his wife launched an attack on the officers.

During the altercation, Neeraj Kumar bit ASI Sukhwinder Singh’s right arm, injuring him, and later retrieved a metal spring from his room, striking the officer on his left hand. Meanwhile, Neeraj’s father, Kulwant Kumar, also reached the scene and prevented the police from conducting a search. He then locked the main gate to trap the police inside.

The police managed to recover 6 gm of heroin from the house. Neeraj and his wife Komal Ghahi were arrested on the spot, while Kulwant Kumar managed to escape. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding accused after registering an FIR.

Drug peddler arrested, 291g of heroin seized

After arresting a 25-year-old drug peddler, the police recovered 291g heroin, Rs 1.05 lakh along with an illegal pistol .32 bore and three live cartridges from his possession. The police also seized a Maruti Alto car. The accused has been identified as Amandeep Singh alias Aman (25) of Guru Nanak Colony. Police said the accused is a repeat offender as there were already around six cases including a case under charges of murder bid registered against him.

The accused was produced before the court on March 10 and the court had sent him to police custody for questioning for two days. On Tuesday, on the basis of the information provided by the accused during questioning, the police also recovered an illegal pistol along with cartridges from his possession.
