‘People know justice will be delayed, and they will get politicised justice’

Justice Surya Kant said delay in justice delivery system, followed by politicised justice, instigates people to violate laws.

Talking about ethics at Rotary Colloquium, organised at Judicial Academy on Sunday,Justice Surya Kant said delay in justice delivery system, followed by politicised justice, instigates people to violate laws.

“People choose to violate law and believe in monocracy because they know that justice will be delayed for decades and after years of wait, what they will get is politicised justice,” Justice Kant said. He said that things can improve with the value of responsibility, adding that the delivery of justice is not only the job of judges but of the people at every stage.

“Every small action of human beings involves a process of justice delivery in our daily life. Each one of us,whatever position we are in,needs to step into the shoes of others about whom we are taking the decision. If we consider that our action would impact someone’s life, this world would become a better place,” he said.

Justice Kant lamented dwindling trust in governance at both administrative as well as political levels, who must introspect and introduce ways to be accountable and answerable to the lives of the people they impact through their ill-governed methods.

Later,he underlined the need for re-inculcating the values amongst the new generation in which more than the schools, the parents and the family should take the lead. In order to combat the ills of society and rid it of corruption, children need to be attracted to ethical values,he added.
