On International Poverty Day,MC gives away LPG autos to BPL beneficiaries

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation donated 18 LPG autorickshaws to BPL beneficiaries on Friday.

The Mayor handed over the vehicles as part of the first project under Swaran Jayanti Shehari Rozgar Yojna (SJSRY).

Additional Commissioner P K Sharma,Joint Commissioner T P S Phoolka,Project Co-ordinator SJSRY Bhagat Ram,Project Director Vivek Trivedi and other officials from Punjab National Bank were also present on the occasion.

T P S Phoolka said that under the urban self-employment programme of SJSRY,a beneficiary in the category of below poverty line is entitled for a loan and subsidy for setting up a business venture.

Under the same component,a BPL beneficiary is allowed to avail loan up to Rs 2 lakh with 25 percent subsidy subject to a maximum of Rs 50,000.

While addressing the BPL beneficiaries,Mayor Kamlesh said International Poverty Day is observed on October 17 every year.

She added that more three-wheelers will be given to BPL beneficiaries in the future to provide assistance to them and upgrade their living standards.
