On Diwali, 11 arrested for bursting crackers outside permissible time limit

The Chandigarh Police, in a press statement, stated that a total of 25 people had been arrested in the last 48 hours, comprising Diwali day and Friday, for bursting firecrackers outside permissible period.

A total of 11 people were arrested for bursting firecrackers outside the permissible time limit from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm in Chandigarh on Diwali. The Chandigarh Police, in a press statement, stated that a total of 25 people had been arrested in the last 48 hours, comprising Diwali day and Friday, for bursting firecrackers outside permissible period.

On Diwali night, four persons were arrested by Sector 17 police station, two persons were arrested by Sector 49 police station, one person was arrested by Mauli Jagran police station, three persons were arrested by Manimajra police station and one man was arrested by Sector 34 police station.

On October 13, the Punjab and Haryana High Court restricted the use the fireworks on days other than Diwali and said the fireworks would be allowed between 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm on Diwali. Among those arrested were Keshav Goyal, Rahul Kumar of Sector 22, Varun Arora of Mansa Devi Complex, Sector 5, Panchkula, Ramesh Kumar of Burail, Sector 45, Himanshu Gupta of Sector 51, and Puneet Kumar of Victoria Enclave in Sector 51. Police officials said before arresting the persons for bursting firecrackers outside the permissible time period, police personnel made their video clips.

Goyal was arrested from near Shishu Niketan, Sector 22, and Rahul Kumar was arrested for bursting firecrackers near Sood Dharamshala, Sector 22. Varun was arrested for setting off fireworks in Sector 16. Ramesh of Burail was arrested for bursting firecrackers at the showroom market of Sector 22 around 11.30 pm.

Puneet Kumar of Victoria Enclave in Sector 51 was arrested for letting off fireworks at 11.35 pm by a PCR personnel. Himanshu of ESIC colony, Sector 51, was arrested for bursting firecrackers at 10.35 pm. Two persons — Sanjeev Kumar of Kajheri village and Shiv Kumar of Sector 24 — were arrested for selling firecrackers without any licence and permission of UT Administration. A total of 111 kg explosive products were recovered from both of them. They were arrested by Sector 36 police station.

From October 17 to 20, the Chandigarh Police has registered a total of 55 FIRs under Section 188 (violating the prohibitory orders). About 18 FIRs out of 55 are against unknown persons for setting off fireworks while violating the prohibitory orders in Chandigarh. A total of 13 people were arrested during this period for storing and selling firecrackers without any licence and permission of Chandigarh Administration.
