Officials gear up to prevent outbreak of waterborne diseases in Chandigarh

The health department, in collaboration with the municipal corporation, has devised a strategy to prevent any outbreak of waterborne diseases in the city.

Gaurav Aggarwal, anti-malaria officer, UT health department, said: “We are working together with the municipal corporation to prevent any possible outbreak of waterborne diseases in the city.”

He said the health department will do chlorination of the water supply channels across the city. “Through this, we can stop water contamination,” said Gaurav.

He added that they will inspect the ice factories and also check the sources of sale of ice in the city. “We are also conducting house-to-house checking in the city and are giving chlorine tablets to those suffering from mild diarrhea,” said Gaurav.

He also said unhygienic food that is being sold in the city will be checked. “There are some high-risk zones where we are expecting these cases. We will check the vendors and will not allow them to sale the food on streets,” said Gaurav, adding that so far no cases of cholera have been reported in the city.

Health officials said after the outbreak of waterborne diseases in some parts of Punjab, they have received instructions that measures should be taken. “The health department is taking preventive measures so that there is no such case in Chandigarh,” said an official.
