Music producer Pinky Dhaliwal was Sunday arrested by the Mataur police following allegations of exploitation and financial fraud by Punjabi singer Sunanda Sharma.

The arrest was made after Punjab Women Commission chairperson Raj Lali Gill took suo motu notice of the case, demanding immediate legal action.

Dhaliwal was produced in a court which granted two-day police remand.

According to sources, Dhaliwal allegedly withheld Sharma’s rightful earnings for several years, forced her into restrictive contracts, and even threatened her when she asked for her dues. The matter came to light when Sharma posted a message on social media, stating, “Mere kol tan apna ghar v nahi hai, mainu roti khan joga tan chad do (I don’t even have a house; at least let me earn enough to eat).” This revelation sent shockwaves through the music industry, triggering outrage and demands for justice.

Taking swift action, Gill condemned the exploitation and assured that justice would be done. She emphasised that Sharma’s case is not an isolated incident, as multiple female artistes have come forward with similar complaints. Calling for a thorough investigation, she urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to intervene and ensure that no woman in the industry faces such injustice in the future.

Confirming the developments, DSP Ajitpal Singh stated, “Yes, Sunanda Sharma has filed an application. An FIR (No. 39) has been registered, and Pinky Dhaliwal has been arrested under BNS sections 420, 406, 467, 468, 471, and 431. Investigations are going on. If others are involved, they will also face action.”
