To enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal, the Municipal Corporation (MC), Mohali has initiated the installation of ornamental poles and decorative street lights along major roads. In the first phase, 80 lights will be installed from PCL Light Point to the Chandigarh border at a cost of Rs 1 crore. The municipal corporation has already commenced work after finalising the tendering process with various companies.

These ornamental poles, which will be 8 metres tall, will be placed along the central verge of the road, with decorative lights on both sides. This road connects the Furniture Market in Chandigarh and extends from Phase 5 lights through Madanpur Chowk to Phase 3A and Phase 2, reaching the Chandigarh border, where these street lights will be installed.

Previously, the MC had installed similar ornamental poles and decorative lights in some of Mohali’s key markets. These installations received positive feedback for their aesthetic appeal, although they are notably shorter than the new street lights being introduced on the main roads.

Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu stated that this is a pilot project, with 80 lights being installed in the first phase. He emphasised that these lights and poles will enhance the city’s appearance during the day and make it even more stunning at night. The initiative is part of a broader plan to develop Mohali as a smart city, with LED lights being installed on key roads and intersections. Following the successful implementation of this phase, ornamental poles and decorative lights will be extended to all major roads across the city. This initiative aims not only to beautify the city but also to reduce electricity consumption, as these lights will be environmentally friendly.

Installation of grills on road dividers underway

Meanwhile, to enhance road safety and prevent accidents, long grills costing Rs 3 crore are being installed on road dividers in Mohali. The installation has begun on the road stretching from Phase 3B2 towards Sector 76.
