Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu Wednesday dedicated two new funeral vans for the city’s cremation ground, promising better facilities for residents and announcing further development works worth Rs 50 lakh.
“The existing vans had become old, causing inconvenience to families. With these two new vehicles, that problem is now resolved,” Mayor Sidhu said. The vans, each costing about Rs 24 lakh, are equipped to seat 15 passengers.
Sidhu said that an electric cremation machine platform is under construction and new sheds will soon be added to provide comfort to grieving families. “Nearly Rs 50 lakh will be spent on these works, which will begin shortly,” he added.
Highlighting Mohali’s rapid population growth, the mayor said the existing facility is under pressure. “At times, families have to wait for hours for a cremation slot. A new cremation ground in the city is essential,” he said, urging the Punjab government and GMADA to allot land to the Municipal Corporation for this purpose.
“The comfort and dignity of Mohali residents remain my top priority. All issues related to the cremation ground will be addressed on a priority basis,” Sidhu said.
With these new initiatives, the civic body aims to provide a modern, dignified, and efficient cremation facility to meet the needs of the city’s expanding population.
