The General House of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will take up the issue of “increase of financial powers of Finance & Contract Committee (F&CC) of Municipal Corporation” from existing Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
To date, the finance panel could approve works only up to Rs 50 lakh. The issue will be taken up in the General House meeting scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

It was specified that the issue was taken up in the meeting of Finance & Contract Committee held on March 22 last month in the Committee Room of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh where the matter regarding enhancing the financial powers of Finance & Contract Committee (F&CC) as constituted under Section 46 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Act, 1994. It was discussed and it was unanimously desired that the financial powers of F&CC be enhanced from the existing Rs 50.00 lakh to Rs 1.00 crore.
“It was deliberated during the meeting that the cost of the man and material has increased manifold since year 2014, when the financial powers of the F&CC were last enhanced,” the agenda item mentioned.
The financial powers of the finance panel were increased in 2014 when the powers were to approve works only up to Rs 35 lakh which were increased to Rs 50 lakh.
“It is further submitted that an agenda item No. 13 was placed in the 206th meeting of the General House held on 30.05.2014 to increase the financial powers of Finance and Contract Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, wherein the House resolved and increased the financial power of Finance & Contract Committee of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh from Rs 35 lakh to Rs 50 lakh,” it was specified.
“Thus proposal to increase financial powers of the Finance and Contract Committee from Rs 50 lakh to Rs1.00 crore is placed before the General House of the Corporation for consideration and approval,” it was stated in the agenda item.
