The Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation (MC) Mohali on Monday approved development works worth Rs 33.91 crore, setting the stage for an infrastructure upgrade across the city.
The meeting, chaired by Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu, was attended by Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh Sidhu, Senior Deputy Mayor Amreek Singh Somal, Chief Engineer Naresh Batta, Committee members Jasbir Singh Manku and Anuradha Anand, Assistant Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Executive Engineer (XEN) Kamaldeep Singh, and other officials.
Speaking after the meeting, Mayor Jeeti Sidhu said the newly approved projects would play a “pivotal role in redefining Mohali’s image and improving public amenities”. “These works are not just about infrastructure, but about creating a cleaner, smarter, and more connected city.”
Among the key projects approved are re-carpeting of major roads, installation of grills along central verges, and construction of sports facilities and libraries. The roadworks include Railway Station Road for Rs 1.19 crore, Dividing Road at Sector 67/68 for 1.71 crore, Dividing Road at Sector 68/69 for Rs 1.69 crore, and Dividing Road at Sector 66/67 for Rs 1.68 crore.
In addition, new grills from PCL Light to Lakhnour on the central verge (for Rs 2.31 crore) and a new Community Centre at Kumbhra village (Rs 2.49 crore) have been sanctioned. The list also includes libraries from Sector 77 to 80 (for Rs 1.4 crore), a volleyball court at Mataur village (Rs 12.15 lakh), and construction work at the Jagatpura dumpsite (Rs 49.2 lakh).
Mayor Sidhu further announced that additional works worth Rs 3.06 crore have been approved for the next phase. “All estimates are ready, tenders will be floated shortly, and ongoing works will begin within two to three days.” “Residents will start seeing visible changes at the ground level within 10–15 days,” Sidhu added.
Referring to his recent meeting with contractors, the Mayor said it was convened to review progress on ongoing projects and address operational issues.
“Several contractors are yet to complete pending works from 2022. They’ve been clearly told to take only as much work as required to complete on time.”
“Those leaving projects incomplete will be blacklisted and debarred in the next review meeting,” Sidhu warned.
