The Vigilance Bureau has issued a notice to Dr. Barjinder Singh Hamdard, managing editor of Ajit newspaper, within few hours of filing the reply of an earlier notice issued to him by VB. Dr Hamdard is facing action in Jang-e-Azadi Memorial case.
Ajit group of publication through a press release said that Punjab government is so desperate to act against Dr. Hamdard that it is putting pressure on Vigilance Bureau which is issuing notices one after another.
Dr. Hamdard had responded to the initial set of questions sent by the Vigilance Bureau officials today itself but within few hours of submitting the first response a fresh notice was issued to him for July 3.
The new fresh notice signifies the how bureau analysed the first response of Dr Hamdard just in a few hours and then issued the second notice.
Though Dr. Hamdard got the exemption from personal appearance in VB office from the Punjab and Haryana High court but still he was asked to appear but he (Dr. Hamdard) sent his reply in written and also mentioned that he had previously tendered his resignation from all positions associated with the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial on April 10, thus rendering him devoid of any records related to the institution.
However, the officials maintain in the latest notice to reply the questioned posed to him on the basis of record as well as his memory.
Furthermore, the Vigilance Bureau made the personnel manager of Ajit group to sit in their office for approximately three hours.
“The bureau has instructed ‘Ajit’’s editor to provide responses based on his memory and without any supporting records, suggesting a potential motive to take action against Dr. Hamdard,” read some press release.
This recent development comes in the wake of an escalating series of confrontations between Dr Hamdard and the Punjab government.
While tensions continue to mount, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold, as Dr. Hamdard he’s getting support from several quarters in the state in trading from political parties.
