After four days of dream journey,Mandeep S. Gill’s dreams finally came crashing down when Adit Jain overpowered him to win the men’s singles title 6-7 (5),6-0,6-1 in the final of the AITA Men and Women Rs. 50000 Ranking Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Stadium,Sector 10,on Friday.
CLTA trainee Mandeep,who had a good tournament throughout,looked at his best when he won the first set 7-6 (5) in a tie-breaker. However,as the match progressed,his performance dipped and he made couple of unforced errors which cost him dear.
Adit picked up his game in the second set and easily claimed the set 6-0. Mandeep tried to stop Adit but the Delhi lad rallied to claim the final set 6-1 to lay his hands on the title.
Meanwhile,in the women’s singles category,Shweta Rana of Himachal overcame a stiff resistance from Gopika Kapoor to win 6-4,6-0 in the final. However,Chandigarh girl Mehak Singh brought Chandigarh a title in the form of women’s doubles title. She paired with Shweta Rana of Himachal and defeated the duo of Gopika Kapoor and Garima Vatwani 6-3,6-2 to win the title.
Lakshit Sood and Chandril Sood proved too good against Prateek Bhambri and Yogesh Phogat and went on to win the men’s doubles title 6-1,6-0.
