Man throws two live hand grenades in Zirakpur

Tension gripped Zirakpur on Saturday when a motorcyclist threw two live hand grenades on the Zirakpur-Highground link road in the evening.

Tension gripped Zirakpur on Saturday when a motorcyclist threw two live hand grenades on the Zirakpur-Highground link road in the evening. According to Dera Bassi DSP J S Khera,a police party was patrolling on the link road when a motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction threw a black polythene bag on the road,turned back and fled towards the Patiala road. The incident took place around 7 pm. The spot is 1.5 kilometres away from the Indian Air Force Highground Station.

Upon finding two hand grenades wrapped in a cloth inside the bag,the cops immediately alerted their superiors and called the Bomb Disposal Squad,Chandigarh. The grenades could have done major harm had they exploded,an expert said.

Subsequently,the police blocked the Zirakpur-Highground link road. Efforts are on to trace the motorcyclist.
