Gajpat Singh Grewal, brother-in-law of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia Monday failed to appear before the Vigilance Bureau in connection with the case against Majithia and has now been issued fresh summons to appear on September 16.

It is learnt that during the ongoing investigation in Case FIR No. 22/2025, Police Station Vigilance Bureau, at Mohali, Gajpat Singh Grewal, brother-in-law of accused Bikram Singh, was summoned to appear before the Investigating Officer on Sept 15.

Vigilance Bureau sources said that Grewal “failed to appear without any reason”.

Vigilance sources said the Investigating Officer in the case has now issued fresh summons under Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, directing him to appear on 16.09.2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Vigilance Bhawan, Sector 68, Mohali.

Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on June 25 following raids at his Amritsar residence and 25 other locations across Punjab. A Mohali court initially remanded him to seven days of VB custody on June 26, which was extended by four days on July 2. He was then sent to 14 days of judicial custody on July 6 and lodged in New Nabha Jail near Patiala.

Bikram Majithia remains in judicial custody at New Nabha Jail. On September 11 the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Punjab government to respond within two weeks to his anticipatory bail petition in the DA case.

The SAD has condemned the case as “politically motivated” by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, while the AAP maintains it is part of a broader anti-corruption and anti-drug drive. Majithia’s earlier bail in the related 2021 NDPS case was upheld by the Supreme Court in April 2025, but with strict conditions; however, this DA case is treated as distinct by authorities.
