The Ludhiana rural police Tuesday recovered 3 kg heroin and arrested two persons in the case. Police said that the drug was smuggled from Pakistan via drone.
Police said that both suspects were arrested after they were stopped for checking on the basis of suspicion as they were carrying a bag with Urdu written on it. When checked, three kg heroin was recovered from the bag.
Addressing a press conference, Kaustubh Sharma, IG, Ludhiana range, said that both arrested persons were identified as Naib Singh, 35, of Akkuwal village and Surinder Singh alias Chhinda, 27, of Khurshidpura village of Sidhwan Bet.
IG Sharma said that the arrests were made by CIA Jagraon team led by Inspector Heera Singh who along with the team, arrested both persons from Sidhwan Bet-Nakodar road during special checking. The accused were crossing from there on a bike.
IG said that during questioning, they told police that they were going to deliver the consignment among the addicts in Jagraon, Sidhwan Bet and other areas of Ludhiana.
An FIR under sections 21 and 25 of NDPS Act was registered against the accused at Sidhwan Bet police station. Police said Naib Singh is already an undertrial in a drug peddling case while two cases of illegal sand mining are lodged against Surinder Singh.
