The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday reserved the order on the anticipatory bail plea of Punjab former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and five former police officers in the 2015 Kotkapura police firing case.
The petitioners – Sukhbir Badal, former DGP Punjab Sumedh Saini, former Faridkot SSP Sukhmander Singh Mann, former DIG Amar Singh Chahal, former IG Paramraj Umranangal and former Moga SSP Charanjeet Singh Sharma – have been seeking anticipatory bail in FIR No.129 registered on August 7, 2018, for attempt to murder and other offences under provisions of the IPC and the Arms Act at Kotkapura police station in Faridkot district.
The petitioners are already on interim bail at present.
The Punjab Police special investigation team, led by ADGP L K Yadav, probing the police firing case had filed a charge sheet in a Faridkot court in this regard.
Sukhbir Badal and Sumedh Saini were named in it as “masterminds of conspiracy for use of illegal excessive force to hide the inaction” of the state on three sacrilege incidents in Faridkot.
