The Ludhiana police on Sunday arrested Punjab Youth Congress state general secretary Sarvotam Singh alias Lucky Sandhu in an alleged kidnapping and rioting case. His brother Amaninder alias Maninder Sandhu, who is also Congress youth wing’s district president for Ludhiana rural, has also been booked in the same case.

Lucky Sandhu was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a witness in an assault case and threatening him at gunpoint. The complainant alleged that both brothers along with their aides kidnapped him and took him to their roadside eatery “Bhraavan Da Dhaba” in Sahnewal and assaulted him.

An FIR has been registered on the statement of Harjit Singh (40), a transporter from Tower Colony. In his complaint, Harjit Singh alleged that on Friday night he and his friend Babbaljit Singh were crossing from the area where the eatery is situated. The accused intercepted them and kidnapped him. Lucky Sandhu, his brother and their 10-12 aides took him inside the eatery and thrashed him, he alleged. Harjit Singh further alleged that Lucky Sandhu took out a pistol, put it on his neck and threatened him to not record his statement against him in the court. However, he managed to escape on Saturday and filed a complaint with the police.

The complainant added that Lucky Sandhu had assaulted one of his friends Gurvir Singh Garcha in which he was the witness. He alleged that the accused also snatched his phone.

An FIR under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 365 (kidnapping or abduction), 379-B (snatching using force), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 511 (attempt to commit offences) of IPC was registered against Sarvotam Singh alias Lucky Sandhu, Amaninder alias Maninder Sandhu and their 10-12 unidentified aides.

Inspector Inderjit Singh, SHO Sahnewal police station, said that Lucky Sandhu was arrested, while his brother Maninder was yet to be arrested. He said that police were in the process of identifying their aides.

It is for the second time that Lucky Sandhu has been arrested. Earlier in April this year, he was booked and subsequently arrested in an extortion case for allegedly making calls to trap rich and influential businessmen of Ludhiana in connivance with “Instagram influencer” Jasneet Kaur of Mohali. However, Sandhu was later bailed out (on June 25) and Congress workers had gathered outside jail to “welcome” him.
