Former Punjab minister Jagmohan Singh Kang has written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a substantial financial aid for flood-ravaged Punjab. The appeal underscores the “extensive damage to life, property, and crops” caused by unprecedented rainfall and flooding.
The letter highlights the catastrophic impact of the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers, noting the scale of destruction is “difficult to even estimate”. While acknowledging the strained political relations between the AAP-led state government and the Centre, Kang has pleaded for compassion to transcend politics.
He urged the Prime Minister not to be swayed by the “actions, behaviour, or statements of this inexperienced AAP government” and instead appealed for “maximum financial assistance with an open heart and without any discrimination”.
Calling Punjab the “holy land of gurus, saints, patriots, and warriors”, Kang’s letter concludes with a heartfelt call for Central support, emphasising that the people of Punjab should not suffer due to political differences.
