The Central government on Monday issued a notification transferring Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra from the Allahabad High Court to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The move is in line with the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation dated May 26.
Monday’s notification cleared the transfers and appointments of the judges and chief justices of several high courts across the country. The Ministry of Law and Justice also notified the transfer of three senior judges from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, with Justices Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, Anil Kshetarpal, and Sudhir Singh being reassigned to the Rajasthan, Delhi, and Patna high courts, respectively.
Justice Mishra, 56, began his legal journey after completing a BA (Honours) in Economics from Kirori Mal College, Delhi, followed by an LLB at the Campus Law Centre, Delhi University. He enrolled as an advocate on May 8, 1993, and built his career primarily in the fields of civil, constitutional, and service law.
He appeared as arguing counsel for several statutory bodies including the development authorities in Noida, Ghaziabad and Allahabad, besides the Indian Farmers’ Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO), Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), and the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation. He was also appointed as senior counsel by the state government in important matters.
In 2013, Justice Mishra was designated as a Senior Advocate. The following year, on February 3, 2014, he was sworn in as an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court. He became a permanent judge on February 1, 2016.
