Bharatiya Janata Party leader Satya Pal Jain has urged the Centre to constitute a separate and independent Ayurvedic Board for Chandigarh,as has been done in several other states.
He added that the ongoing campaign to criminally prosecute Ayurvedics and RMP doctors,practising in villages and slum areas should also be held in abeyance.
In a statement issued on Wednesday,Jain said the Congress government had not been able to provide either government dispensaries or doctors in several villages and colonies of Chandigarh,which are inhabited by the economically weaker sections of society.
He said it was due to the lack of proper facilities that hundreds of Ayurvedic and RMP doctors were flourishing,adding that they were at least providing some medical help to the poor.
Jain accused the government of humiliating medical practitioners by arresting them,because of which they have been forced to close down their clinics,which in turn is adversely affecting medical assistance to the needy.
Along with a delegation of Ayurvedic and RMP doctors,Jain recently met the UT health secretary.
He also claims to have written to the UT Administration and sent a copy of the letter to the Union Home Minister for necessary action.
