The Mohali police arrested a suspected ISI agent from the Indian Air Force station in Mullanpur,close to Chandigarh,on Saturday. SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the man,Irfanullah,had been camping near the station for the last few days. He was here to recce the area, said the SSP.
Addressing the media,Singh said Pakistan national Irfan was sent by the head of Khalistan Zindabad Force Ranjit Singh alias Nitta and his associate Gurmeet Singh alias Bagga,now settled in Germany. Irfan was asked to gather information about IAF stations and airports in the country, he said.
The police have recovered a sophisticated pistol with 20 live cartridges,maps and photographs of various IAF stations and airports,besides a diary. The SSP said Irfan was in his late 20s. He is a postgraduate in computer science and before illegally crossing over to India he taught physics,English and mathematics at Rizwan Public High School in Lahore, he said. Irfan has been booked under the Unlawful Activities Act,Official Secrets Act,1923,Foreign Act,1946,and the Arms Act. He has been put under sustained custodial interrogation to ascertain his links and modus operandi.
