Speeding bus mows down motorcycle on Chandigarh-Mohali border
A 23-year-old executive of a private insurance company died while his colleague sustained serious injuries after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding bus on the Chandigarh-Mohali border in Phase VI,Mohali,around 1.15 am on Thursday.
While Arun Sharma,who was driving the bike,was declared dead on arrival at PGI,Chandigarh,the pillion rider Amit Kumar (24) was stated to be in a critical condition,said investigating officer Sub-Inspector Ravinder Pal Singh.
Both Arun and Amit,natives of Guria village in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh,were living in a rented accommodation in Sector 56,Mohali. They were working with ICICI Lombard Insurance Company,said Sub-Inspector Singh.
The accident occurred when Arun was returning home after picking up Amit from ISBT-43,Chandigarh.
As the youths reached Phase VI,a recklessly driven Himachal Road Transport Company (HRTC) bus on its way from Delhi to Hamirpur via Chandigarh,mowed them down. Passersby rushed the two men to
the Mohali Civil Hospital,from where they were referred to the PGI.
The bus driver,Balveer Singh of Chamula village in Hamirpur district,was arrested on charges of causing death and injuries by rash and negligent driving under Sections 279,337,304-A and 427 of the IPC.
